Happy New Year!  As we kick off 2026, we’re looking back at an incredible year of community connection and progress, and sharing what’s coming up this month.  We're excited to keep driving meaningful impact in the neighborhood this year, and we hope to start strong at our first Monthly Community Meeting of the year on Wednesday, January 21st at 7PM at the Fishtown Recreation Center. We'd love to see you there!

 2025 Year in Review

Take a look at some of our highlights from last year:

• Hosted community favorites like Fishtown Family Fest, Meet Your Block, Meet the Neighbors, Teen Art Club, Music in the Park, Kids Dance Parties, Sidewalk Sales, the Art Market, and seasonal events including the Halloween Parade and Holiday Sing Along 
• Awarded scholarships to five college bound students and supported academic traditions like the Great Fishtown Spelling Bee and March Madness Academic Competition
• Raised funds through our Silent Auction and Chili Cookoff to support programming, while advocacy delivered safer streets including longer crossings on Girard, changes at Berks & Girard, and two AARP funded walk audits
• Reviewed 38 zoning cases, organized neighborhood cleanups, shoveled snow for over 100 homes, and delivered 1,000 food boxes with Riverwards Produce through mutual aid

 Teen Art Club: Jan 7th 7:30 PM-9:00 PM at Shissler Rec. 

 

Monthly art club meetings for teen artists age 13 to 18 in and around Fishtown.  Local artists Corey Danks and Sarah MacAnulty will lead an evening of artistic expression and making friends.  Click here to RSVP

 

 Treecycling Event: Jan 10th 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM at the former Greensgrow space

 

Don't trash your tree, Treecycle it! Join us, NKCDC, and Bennett Compost for our annual Treecycling event. For a suggested $5 donation, your tree will be turned into mulch and dispersed to local parks and green spaces.

 

 Permit Parking Meeting: Jan 14th 7:00 PM at Atonement Church, 1542 E Montgomery Ave.

 

FNA will be hosting a community meeting to discuss a proposal to implement residential permit parking regulations on certain blocks: 

• Frankford Ave, Marlborough/Jefferson to Columbia;
• Frankford Ave, Norris to Huntington*;
• Front Street, Wildey to Girard;
• Front Street, Cecil B Moore to Susquehanna*
• Girard Avenue, Front to 2nd*

*includes parts outside of FNA boundaries

All are welcome to attend. To vote on a specific area you must live within 250 feet of one of the proposed areas. A general vote of all attendees will also be held. ID will be required to vote.

 Zoning News & Outcomes

FNA's position on any Zoning Variance, Special Exception, or community issue where a vote is taken is determined by the votes of all eligible/verified members in attendance at the corresponding meeting.

To allow FNA to confirm your eligibility to vote, request to be verified here. Once verified, your virtual voter registration is good for ONE year. You'll only need to register to attend each zoning meeting—not to vote on each project.

December Highlights

• 53–67 Laurel St. Proposed parking garage with ground-floor commercial reviewed by Planning Commission. FNA and neighbors participated; report issued with advisory recommendations.
• 1251 Shackamaxon St.  Variances for multi-family and off-street parking approved unanimously by ZBA. FNA submitted a letter of support.

Rose Garden Update

The neighboring building is currently undergoing some construction work that could not be delayed any longer. As a result, part of the Rose Garden is closed off, and we are pausing the installation of the bricks and irrigation system until this phase is completed, hopefully around the end of February.

 

 Trash & Recycling Update

Starting Jan 5th, trash collection moves to twice a week!

 Winter Safety: Need help or want to help?

Please shovel and salt your sidewalks, check on neighbors, and lend a hand during winter weather if you can.
