APPLICANTS: 5th Annual Fishtown Neighborhood Scholarship Supporting the students within our wonderful neighborhood!
The FNA is pleased to announce the continuation of our Annual FNA Neighborhood Scholarship.
This scholarship hopes to recognize two exceptional high school seniors graduating from Penn Treaty School, and support their post-high-school education plans with an award of up to $5,000each.
In addition, for the first time, we will be granting a third scholarship of up to $5,000 to a student who lives or goes to school in the Fishtown neighborhood!
Criteria. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
Student identifies as a first-generation college student and/orFamily income below threshold (using School District of Philadelphia qualifications for free and reduced lunch)
GPA of 2.5 or higher, with possible exception for trend towards higher grades in junior/senior year accompanied by letter of recommendation
Accepted to an accredited post-secondary education institution (4-year, 2-year, or community college, or other post-secondary education, including trade schools and other accredited training/apprenticeship programs)
Application. A complete application consists of:
Copy of high school transcript, including overall GPA, with option to include this year’s grades
A resume and/or brief list of extracurricular activities, including community service (optional)
Confirmation from school that student qualifies under income limits, or other proof of family income, if applicable
If the student doesn't attend Penn Treaty, they should provide proof of residence and/or attending school within Fishtown.
An application essay of not more than two pages answering the following question: Imagine that you are writing a recommendation for yourself. What should the scholarship committee know about you? Tell your story. Be sure to include how where you’ve come from and where you are now has influenced what you want to do in the future.
If GPA < 2.5, letter of recommendation from a teacher, school staff, or other mentor
Award. Up to $5,000, to be awarded to each three students, raised by the FNA. Funds will be disbursed from FNA directly to the education institution. If a student does not complete the program, the remainder of scholarship will be forfeited.
Selection.
For Penn Treaty Students: Students of Penn Treaty should submit their application through their school representative. Penn Treaty school representatives will collect applications, and ensure each student meets the criteria and has submitted a complete application. If more than 20 applications are submitted, Penn Treaty will narrow the application pool to the most promising 20 applications by applying the scholarship criteria. These applications will be shared with the FNA scholarship working group by May 16, 2025.
For Students Attending Other Schools: Non-Penn Treaty Applicants should submit their completed application to [email protected] by May 16, 2025 at 5pm.
The FNA working group (without personal relationships with any of the applicants under consideration) will select the winner by evaluating each application package for merit and need.
